Name: Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships: Jennifers' Law and Coercive Control
Date: November 18, 2021
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM EST
Event Description:

Part II of a two-part series on healthy vs. unhealthy relationships.

This past summer, CT was the third state in the nation to pass coercive control legislation, expanding the legal definition of domestic violence, which affects approximately 1 in 3 women, and 1 in 5 men.

In this presentation, Chris and Lisa will

  • Discuss the story behind Jennifers’ Law (Jennifer Dulos and Jennifer Magnano) and why Jennifers’ Law is such a victory for domestic abuse victims

  • Play two minute clip of “Jennifer 42” a true crime documentary detailing the story of Jennifer Magnano, told from point of view of her children https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1836442859806377

  • Review what “coercive control” looks like in a relationship, and why many people are unfamiliar with the term (and the behaviors!) - both on how it affects partners and children

  • Review key aspects of Jennifers’ Law and how it can help protect children and vulnerable victims

Workshop will be followed by a Q&A session.
